Healthy Changes to Make Now for a Healthier Lifestyle

In pursuit of a better and healthier lifestyle, we often neglect to look at things which are responsible for keeping us looking good, that is the food we eat and the products we put on our skin. Much of what we eat and apply to our skin is filled with chemicals, additives, and preservatives to make the products last longer, but are not necessarily doing any favors to our health.

Many of these chemicals on the market, have never been tested for human safety.

On the flip side, we have no idea what they might do to our health and affect our well being in the long run. And rather than be concerned with these long term effects, most of us are way too busy to research and shop around for safer products that are better for our health, our families and the planet.

To correct this, you need to find a safe, non-toxic beauty routine on the cosmetic front; one that will allow you to live naturally rather than rely on chemical laden products. To get long term, healthy results you need to feed your skin naturally on the inside so that you can see the results on the outside. Not only do chemically manufactured skin care products carry health risks associated with toxic chemicals, they can trigger the onset of skin conditions and other diseases that may otherwise be easily prevented by making better choices every day for you and your loved ones.

Undoubtedly, the first step is to make healthier choices when it comes to the food you eat and the products you bring into your home. And while it is true that the quality of our food has declined over time and most of it is raised on factory farms, it is not entirely impossible to find healthy alternatives to processed and refined foods.

The industrialization of food has indeed led to including many chemicals and additives in foods that were never used 30 years ago.

Among other issues, this has caused a rise in obesity, and other medical conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. All these chemicals are affecting our health in so many different ways and at so many different levels.

To turn to healthier living and a better lifestyle, avoid foods that come in packages to the best of your ability.

Instead feed yourself and your loved ones whole, fresh foods as much as possible. Eat tons of fruits and vegetables and whole grains; they can transform your skin making it look fresh and rejuvenated. Turning to healthier foods also means that you will have more energy, your body will be better able to ward off disease and your stress levels will be noticeably diminished.

At the same time, reduce your sugar intake and narrow down the consumption of processed foods. Avoid processed or packaged foods, microwave meals, GMOs, and convenience foods that come with an unpronounceable ingredient list. Look for healthier options in the form of organic foods where possible.

Organic produce, whether meat or dairy, should ideally be USDA “certified organic label”. This means that the products aren’t sprayed with toxic pesticides and fertilizers and farmers have not used GMO (genetically modified) seeds. Likewise, animals were not given antibiotics or growth hormones and were only fed 100% organic diet and had access to outdoors.

For beef, poultry and seafood choose lean protein and antibiotic free products that are organic. For produce opt for locally grown produce as it starts to lose its nutritional value and flavor the minute it’s picked. Add to that the travel time it needs for transportation to far off areas and by the time it reaches you, most of it has been stripped off of its nutritional value. That is why it’s best to eat local as much as possible or grow your own garden.

And while all food is affected by chemicals sprayed onto them, the following are items that absorb the highest pesticides. The list includes apples, celery, sweet bell peppers, peaches, strawberries, nectarines, grapes, spinach, lettuce, cucumbers, blueberries, potatoes, green beans, kale and all greens.

Meats and produce should always be organic, and for those with skin sensitivities, dairy should be restricted or at least minimized. Dairy has been linked to play a role in allergies and other health problems as we get older. Instead of milk, switch to almond milk.

Remember that eating healthy helps you keep the weight off, have beautiful skin, better immunity to diseases, and helps you live a happier, more energetic life!
