How to Make Tofu Scramble

One of my favorite recipes to make for breakfast is tofu scramble. Before we dig in to how to make it, lets start talking about the main ingredient in the recipe: tofu.

What I’ve always found interesting is that many people often don’t know what tofu actually is as well as the health benefits of tofu. To keeps things simple, tofu is basically the result of what happens when you curd soy milk and press it into soft white blocks. Making tofu is very similar to making cheese. The only difference is that you use soy milk instead of regular milk.

There are many health benefits of incorporating tofu into your daily meal plan. For starters, each serving of tofu includes a good amount of protein, manganese, calcium, selenium and phosphorus. On top of being a good source of protein, tofu is also low on calories which is great if you’re looking to lose weight.

One of the most important things you want to remember when making this recipe is to purchase organic tofu. There’s a lot of manufactured tofu in the market that is filled with GMO, so you want to make sure that the tofu you are buying is 100% organic.

To make tofu scramble, you want to put a little bit of olive oil in a frying pan and heat it up. Then you want to add a bit of red onion and red peppers to the pan and stir until the veggies start to soften. Red peppers are a great source of vitamin c, so it’s a great ingredient to incorporate in your recipes if you’re looking to get extra vitamins in your body.

Once veggies have softened, you can add the tofu to the pan. Make sure to scramble the tofu before either with your hands or with a fork so it mixes better with the other ingredients. You also want to wrap the tofu up in a paper towel (before for a few minutes) to absorb all the water out.

When you put the tofu in the pan, you can then start adding your spices. I usually use a bit of salt, garlic powder, pepper, cumin and chili powder. These are all great ingredients because not only are they rich in flavor (which is great because tofu doesn’t have much flavor), but they also have good nutritional value.

For example, cumin and chili powder are both great for digestion and garlic powder is also a great source of vitamin c and iron.

Once you’ve added the ingredients, you want to let them cook for a few minutes to give the ingredients the time to incorporate really well. After a few minutes you can add in a handful of chopped spinach. Spinach is a great source of iron, calcium and vitamin c. It’s very rich in vitamins which makes it a great energy booster.

You can add a bit of water as you cook the ingredients that way it avoids them sticking to the pan and helps them cook better. This is a great dish that is filled with color and can be served with a side of potatoes or toast, or you can even wrap it up in a pita bread or tortilla.
