There are many alternatives you can go with like steaming, poaching, boiling, and many other cooking methods. If you have been wondering how to cook your food without oil, then you have come to the right place.

In this article, we will be giving you all the details you need to know on why you should be cooking without oil.

Why Cooking Without Oil is Better?

Some of the oil that you see in supermarkets or on TV are advertised as healthy oil. But if you really think about it, there is no oil that is actually really healthy. In fact, coconut oil, flaxseed oil, or olive oil are not that healthy.

In reality, oil is made out of purely fat its just that all the nutrients have been stripped away and contains more calories per gram as compared to other foods on the market. Just 1 tbsp of oil is about 120 calories. Yikes!

Alternative Cooking Methods you Can Use

  • Baking – For baking, you can make use of a healthy puree made out of fruit, which is a better alternative for fats like butter, oil, or shortening. A few examples can be apple sauce, mashed bananas, and pureed dates. On some occasions, you can also make use of nut flour or nut butters as a substitute or an addition.
  • Roasting – Have you noticed how roasting your food can look just as good without the oil? In fact, there’s no need to cover anything with oil before roasting. A better alternative would be to season your food with vegetables, spices, herbs and a little bit of vegetable stock or a light water soy sauce mixture. This works just as well as compared to oil, and may even taste a lot better.
  • Sautéing and Stir Frying- Okay, since we are talking about stir frying the most common ingredient you can find in most ingredients would be oil. So, how can you fry anything without oil? The trick here is to use a little bit of water and/or broth. Do this as often as you need to make the food brown, without steaming it. Also remember to keep stirring the ingredients of your dish with a wooden spoon continuously so that it does not burn the food.
  • Deep Frying – Same concern with deep-frying, how can you cook anything without oil? It’s quite easy; the alternative could be to bake your ingredients instead of deep-frying them. In fact, this method could be an even better alternative to the grease that you will end up eating if you deep-fry. It’s easier, and a lot healthier to use this method as well, you’ll find that it will take some time to get used to it, but in the long run it will turn out to be a better alternative.
